A Prayer For The Secret To The Victorious Life

 

 

Almighty, sovereign God, who has given us our salvation through Your Son Jesus, may our singing praise You, may our prayers please You and may our attention to Your Word produce in us a spirit of obedience and love.   

 

We thank You for Him who is our Savior, the Rose of Sharon, the Lily of the Valley, the Fairest of Ten Thousand, and the Bright and Morning Star.  We know that when we praise Him, we praise You; when we love Him, we love You; when we adore Him, we adore You.  Grant us now an audience with Your Son.

 

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, this week we specifically thank You for Your wisdom and Your truths.  We remember how simply and yet how profoundly You taught us the secret of the victorious Christian life in the three little words: “Abide in me!”  The life which sings in the rain, rejoices in the wind, triumphs in the fog, and believes in the storm is the life which has learned to “Abide in You.”  

 

We thank You for teaching us that it is a relationship, a continuous unbroken relationship; a relationship as close and binding as that of the branch and the vine.   A reciprocal relationship which is like no other; for the life in the vine flows into the branch, even as the life in the branch flows into the vine.  A relationship that was expressed so beautifully and powerfully by the Apostle Paul when he wrote, “I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live, yet not I but Christ lives in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me.”  The secret of the victorious life is one of position!

 

Help us, O Living Christ, to abide each day by faith, by prayer, by meditation, and by feeding on Your Word.  Forgive us when we think that we can face life and all of its trials and troubles, difficulties and disappointments, pains and problems, challenges and confrontations in our own strength.  

 

O Holy One, You who first knocked on the door of our hearts until we let You in, now   help us to abide in You.  It is by abiding that our lives will bear the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, tenderness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.  Might the branches of our lives hang heavy with this fruit.  It is in Your name that we pray.         Amen
