A Prayer For Those With Deep Emotional Needs

Heavenly Father, infinite in holiness, justice and goodness, fountain head of all life, You knit us together when we were in our mother’s womb, You molded us like clay and formed and fashioned us into the person we have become.   We thank You for who we are, for we can truly say, “We are fearfully and wonderfully made.”

We have but to think of the bodies You have given us.  It staggers us to think that a one pound muscle, called our heart, pumps nearly 2,000 gallons of blood through our circulatory system each day.  We marvel at the digestive system which can turn foods of all kinds into energy and strength, as well as eliminate the unwanted wastes which are of no value.  We are amazed of the musculoskeletal system which consists of 650 muscles and 206 bones, all joined together by joints and sockets.  We are awed by the two square yards of skin which covers us and is replaced again and again in our life time.   To think that one square inch contains millions of cells as well as many specialized nerve endings for sensing heat, cold and pain.  And then we are astounded most when we think of our brains and the nervous system which controls our coordination, learning, memory, emotions and thoughts.  Father God, we stand before You in veneration and reverence as we think of the wonder of our creation.

However today we wish to lift into Your presence those, who for reasons beyond our understanding, do not experience the harmony of a near perfect body.  We think not only of those who have physical handicaps, as difficult as they can be, but of the even larger number who suffer from psychological, mental and emotional wounds.  Those many who suffer from depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders, personality disorders, co-dependency and love addiction.  These, too, have been shaped in their mother’s womb.

We plead for them that they might know release and victory over such abnormal behavior.  Strengthen them, calm them, encourage them and give them the hope of finding peace and victory.  Hasten the day when these afflictions can be treated, controlled and corrected.  Bless loved ones who often are burdened by the results of abnormal behavior, give them  a kind spirit, a compassionate heart and the strength to be loving and patient caregivers to those who cannot help themselves.   And may those of us who stand a far off never be condescending, contemptuous or disrespectful of those who deal with these difficulties.  Rather let us feel their pain and reach out in love and compassion.  Let us be diligent and faithful in prayer for them as they cry out to be understood, accepted and loved.

Come Lord Jesus, that all may be made perfect in Your sight.   Amen
