During my many years of ministry I have led the congregation in which I served, in what is titled either the "Pastor's" or the "Congregational prayer".  I prepared for this responsibility by outlining my prayer and then delivering it extemporaneously.  However, while serving as one of the part-time interim pastors at the El Dorado Park Community Church in Long Beach, California, I began writing out the entire prayers prior to sharing them with the congregation.  After following this practice for some months, more and more people were asking me for copies.  Some encouraged me to publish them.  The Preaching Pastor, also an interim pastor, would on occasion remark that he was tempted to take notes during my prayers.

 

When my time as the interim pastor concluded, I continued writing a prayer each week, sharing it through e-mail with those members of the church who asked for copies.  My hope was that they would use the prayers as springboards to pray daily for the many needs and concerns of the members of the church.

 

I have titled these prayers LITTLE TALKS WITH GOD because in my writing of the prayers I thought of them as just that...LITTLE TALKS WITH GOD.  That for which I prayed usually arose out of my own Bible study or the morning news.  I confess that there is no rhyme or reason for their order, although on occasion I followed the church calendar or the events of the day.

 

It is my prayer that you will not simply read the prayers but that you will, indeed, pray them.
